Literature
Lecturer: Mrs Syahreena/Code: TSL082
I took literature as an extra subject for SPM back in high school, so naturally I was ecstatic to begin class. So far we’ve studied a lot of interesting works! I’m happy. I digress, back to the main point- a huge part of our final grade depends on the annual Literary Exhibition held on campus, open to the entire Dengkil community. All TESL students get into groups and open a booth.
Our topic was “Children’s Literature”. We showcased various works that best exemplify how heavy it can be despite the seemingly simple language used. The Little Prince was a big aspect of our presentation, and I wrote a poem based on it with the help of my groupmates Shaqirin and Qistina. The poem is showcased below along with my exam results and some photos from the exhibition.

The Most Important Things in Life
A sonnet based on The Little Prince
Kings, businessmen and drunks
All the same in the little prince’s eyes
Like trees with unsturdy trunks
Loveless, basking in their own pretty lies
Our valiant hero, disappointed that we were in shatters
Disappointed that our people have lost our touch, with the truth that truly matters
A wise fox he encountered at last
That is when the little prince learnt his biggest lesson
Upon reminiscing the beauty of the rose in his past
That to tame someone is to love a person
A pilot, his companion, witnessed his demise
Our hero has brought love back to Earth ever since
As the pilot finally came to realize
That we all were once the little prince
